ImageWhen Honigman Miller Schwartz & Cohn decided to replace 200 outdated laptop computers, partner S. Lee Johnson, right, a Grosse Pointe Rotarian, thought there had to be a good use for them.

After the laptops were carefully scrubbed of confidential information and licensed programs, they were reformatted with an open-source operating system and programs. Grosse Pointe Rotarians installed and tested the software and helped distribute the repurposed laptops to local organizations, including 100 to Matrix Human Services in Detroit. With Johnson at Matrix were, from left, Grosse Pointe Rotarian Mike Carmody; Latrice Jordan, Matrix vice president of marketing and development; Grosse Pointe Rotary President Diane Strickler; Scott Gifford, Matrix vice president of community organization; and Matrix CEO Marcella Wilson, PhD., who called the laptop donation "better than money."
