Civil legal issues touch almost all aspects of a person’s life. They include matters such as divorce, child custody and support, eviction, wills, personal protection orders, name change, record expungement, and guardianships. A national study found that civil legal issues directly impact 55 million people – equivalent to 1 in 6 people living in the US.
Where do you go for information on how to resolve these legal issues? Michigan Legal Help (MLH) is a national model for helping people get access to the civil legal information they need, when they need it, and in a format they can understand and use. In particular, its online platform provides free, bilingual (Spanish) resources for all, regardless of income.
This presentation will highlight the resources available on the MLH website and discuss the support available from navigators in the Legal Self-Help Center in the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center in Detroit.
