Soprano Angela Theis has captivated the attention of international audiences and critics alike, while remaining active in her hometown Detroit area. She is featured on the recently released David DiChiera Letters & Fantasies album and continues to be an ambassador for Michigan Opera Theatre and the music of its founder. In the 2017-2018 season, she reprised her role as Barbarina in Michigan Opera Theatre’s Le nozze di Figaro and returned to the Detroit Institute of Arts as the soprano soloist in Richard Einhorn’s Voices of Light.
In 2017, Ms. Theis made her debut as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro with Toledo Opera. She is an original member of the Michigan Opera Theatre Studio, having recently finished her second year in the program. A perennial favorite of Michigan Opera Theatre, she has performed Beth in Little Women, Frasquita in Carmen, Papagena (Pamina cover) in The Magic Flute, Laurie in The Tender Land, Yvette in The Passenger, the High Priestess in Aïda, Marzelline in Fidelio, and Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro.
Operatic roles around the country have included Pamina in the Magic Flute School Programs Tour (The Metropolitan Opera Guild), Adina in L’elisir d’amore and Mabel in Pirates of Penzance (both with Eugene Opera), Johanna in Sweeney Todd (Syracuse Opera), and Clorinda in La Cenerentola and Frasquita in Carmen (both with Opera Roanoke). On the concert stage, Ms. Theis was a three-time soloist with Utah Symphony (including Handel’s Messiah), a two-time soloist in Austria with the AIMS Festival Orchestra, and the soprano soloist in Voices of Light at the Detroit Institute of Arts in 2013.
Ms. Theis has been honored with numerous grants and awards, most notably as a fellow to study under Barbara Bonney at the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, as the recipient of both the Audience Choice Award and 2nd Prize in the 2013 AIMS Meistersinger Competition, and as a 2012 Michigan winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. While a resident artist with Utah Opera, she made her professional debut as the Dew Fairy in Hansel and Gretel and performed Beth in Little Women. In her final year at New England Conservatory, she was seen as Gretel in Hansel and Gretel and as Zerlina in Don Giovanni, for which the Boston Globe praised her "bright, bold, and beguilingly sung" performance. Ms. Theis holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame.

Mezzo-soprano Katherine DeYoung is a native of Traverse City, Mich. and is delighted to join the Michigan Opera Theatre Studio. Recently, Katherine completed her master's degree at the University of Houston where she performed Isabella in "L'Italiana in Algeri," Gertrude in "Romeo et Juliette," and Elizabeth Proctor in "The Crucible." Her favorite role performed is the title role in "Carmen" with Opera in the Ozarks. This summer, Katherine looks forward to joining Santa Fe Opera as a member of the apprentice singer program. Next season with Michigan Opera Theatre, she will perform Sandman and cover Hansel in "Hansel and Gretel," perform Old Lady in "Candide" and cover Olga in "Eugene Onegin." Katherine is a District Winner of the 2018 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and is an alumna of Michigan State University.
