Grosse Pointe North High School Principal Kate Murray was the guest speaker at the May 10 evening meeting of Rotary of Grosse Pointe at The War Memorial. She was greeted by President Ted Everingham and introduced by George R. McMullen Jr. of the Program Committee.
Originally from suburban Chicago, Murray came to the Grosse Pointe School System as a young teacher out of the University of Michigan and never left. She said North High School has come a long way since 2008, a common demarcation point in Grosse Pointe residents' memories. North has risen in national standings by implementing programs, including peer tutoring, designed to increase grade-level proficiency for all incoming students regardless of socioeconomic background.
