Tonight we were joined by nine high school seniors that were awarded with Rotary Club scholarships to aid them with college. These students were from both Grosse Pointe South and Grosse Pointe North, with 3 of them being part of Interact Club’s leadership. Of nine chosen, 6 were in attendance.
Lina Bear was given the Max Gardner Scholarship for being the current Vice President of Grosse Pointe South’s Interact Club. Along with Interact Club she is a member of the National Junior Honor Society and has played both Field Hockey and Lacrosse at the Varsity level for Grosse Pointe South. In the fall she will be attending Michigan State University majoring in Business and Marketing.
Charlotte Bedsworth was also given the Max Gardner Scholarship for being the current President of Grosse Pointe South’s Interact Club. She is also a part of the mentor program at Grosse Pointe South, helping incoming freshmen adjust to high school. She has also swam for her school all four years as well as being part of the National Junior Honors Society. Charlotte will be attending the University of Michigan majoring in Nursing.
Maeve Hix was given the Max Gardner Scholarship for working as Grosse Pointe South Interact Club’s treasurer. After playing hockey for Grosse Pointe South Varsity Hockey Team for multiple years, she was on the team that won the Division 1 Girls Hockey State Championship this past winter. Maeve will be attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Greg Fannon was given the Frank Sladen Scholarship. He has played on the Varsity Boys Basketball team for multiple years and has also played Football for Grosse Pointe South. Greg is still exploring his options for the fall.
Vivian Rizer was awarded with the Frank Sladen Scholarship. She has been a swimmer for Grosse Pointe South all four years of her high school career as well as being a part of a local all girls choir, One Voice. Vivian will be attending Calvin University majoring in Speech Pathology and Language as well as swimming for the University.
Julia Liagre was given the Frank Sladen Scholarship. She has played Basketball for Grosse Pointe North for multiple years, this past season winning District Finals. Julia will be attending the University of Michigan in the Fall.
The remaining three students that were awarded scholarships were unable to attend tonight’s meeting. We are happy to recognize all of these students and wish the best for them in their futures.
