On May 21st, the Rotary Club honored our 2025 high school scholarship recipients. We were joined by (from left to right) Henry Doyle, Connie Bedsworth, Jhilmil Chhaya, Lily Kester, Sara Thomas, Grace Campbell, and Landon Trombley.

Connie Bedsworth and Henry Doyle were this year’s recipients of the Max Gardner Scholarship. Dr. Gardner co-established The Helm and the scholarship is awarded to students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to their community through service and dedication. Bedsworth will be attending Michigan State University to study nursing. Doyle will also attend MSU as a student at the Broad College of Business.

There were five Frank J. Sladen Scholarship recipients, representing both Grosse Pointe South and Grosse Pointe North. Grace Campbell of Grosse Pointe South will be attending the University of Michigan to study political science with plans to pursue law school. Jhilmil Chhaya from Grosse Pointe North will also attend the University of Michigan, where she will major in neuroscience. Lily Kester of Grosse Pointe South will continue her education at Western Michigan University. Landon Trombley from Grosse Pointe North will attend the Culinary Institute of America in New York to study culinary arts. Sara Thomas, a senior at Grosse Pointe North, will attend the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing. Frank Sladen, for whom the scholarship is named, was a WWII veteran, former Headmaster of Liggett, and a longtime Grosse Pointe Public School System board member. His guiding philosophy, “have faith and good courage,” continues to inspire the values recognized in these awardees.

Congratulations to all recipients and thank you for joining us!
